XINGU : Black Beer

This was a little treat courtesy of the Flying Saucer in Memphis TN. This beer is BLACK. When I say black, I mean it. Very dark beer that is very flat with almost no activity. The beer has a great taste and is not as think as I thought that it would be. I would think that anyone that enjoys a good dark beer would love this.

Laughing Skull: Amber Ale

This beer isn't as amber (in color) as you might expect. It's a nice beer that doesn't really have anything overpowering in it. You can taste a lot of things going on, but none of them really stand out and scream for your attention. It also doesn't have a lot in the way of smell. Overall, it's a pretty solid beer that I enjoy.

DEAD GUY ALE (with some crawfish)

Almost anyone that likes domestic beer, and only drinks things like Bud, Coors, etc are going to say that this is a bad beer. They will bitch and cry about how it's tart or, as they mistakenly call it, "skunked". I will tell ANYONE that has a craving for good beer to grab a bottle of this and thank me later. This is an exceptional beer. Has a beautiful amber color, not a huge head, and has a bready/nutty smell. It does have a little tartness in the aftertaste, but the beer is fantastic.

TSINGTAO

The only time I drink this is if I am eating Asian food. They, obviously, go well together. Other than that, this beer is not something that I normally keep with me. It's light, almost no head, and not much by way of carbonation. It goes well with the dumplings from the local place, but that is about all I buy it for.

Dos Equis : Special Lager

I'm not a huge fan of Mexican beer, especially mass produced Mexican beer. This beer, while not my favorite, is pretty nice for what it is. It has a decent head that disappears after a few seconds, but still has a nice scent. There is a good bit of carbonation in the glass. The flavor is light and, as you would expect, goes pretty well with food that uses lots of spices. Might have something to do with being a Mexican beer, no? :) All in all, it's a nice beer if you are out at a Mexican restaurant or if you are pool side and want something that is not heavy.

NEWCASTLE Brown Ale

This is probably one of my top three favorite beers. To me, it's great! This beer pours a nice carmel brown. Not a lot of head and it goes away pretty quickly. The taste, to me, is fantastic. Nice carmel/toffee taste, not has heavy as it looks, and a great after taste.

Beck's

This is one of those beers that just go down so smooth and are a nice crisp and clean taste. Not a heavy head, not an overpowering flavor, just a really simple and clean taste.

Anchor Porter

I know that the average beer drinker may not be interested in things that stray from the norm. Usually, if you get into dark beers a lot of folks turn their noses up at them because it is not what they normally drink. This is a beer that I would recommend for those that are looking to venture out a bit. It has a sweet taste (not sugary, but not bitter) and a little bit of a coffee smell to it. Really nice beer. Not very thick. Just a really nice flavor.

Best lunch ever! - Heineken Light

The only thing better than a good beer is to have a good lunch to go with it. I had THE BEST bbq bratwurst with a Heineken Light. A lot of people are not Heineken Light fans, but I happen to like it. Why? Because it is an easy light beer to drink. As far as flavor and it being a light beer, it is pretty nice.

Red Brick Brown Ale

Blah! Most folks praise this beer, and who am I to tell them that they are wrong, but when I took a drink all I tasted was a foamy mess. Maybe in a glass it would be different, but as I drank from the bottle all I got was lots of foam and lots of overflow. I was more turned off by that than the actual taste (which again, most people love but I wasn't a huge fan of). All in all, I would pass on this one.

Yuengling Lager

Just a quick note on a beer that my friend Scott turned me on to this week. Yuengling is a pretty great beer, and it should be....considering that it is the oldest beer in America. This beer, if I am not mistaken, started production in 1829 and is one of the largest brewerys in the US. So you may be like me and wonder why you havent had it/heard of it before now. I think it is because of their limited distribution in some areas.  Ice cold and right out of the bottle you get a nice medium lager with just a touch of sweet. Not bad at all and a nice new beer to add to my "like" list. Check it out.

Budweiser Select 55 (with Steak, potato, lima beans and hot wings)

I hate that the first time I actually post a beer on here it has to be one as simple and plain as a Budweiser Select. This is NOT something that you want to brag to your friends about drinking, but it was all that we had in the house that night and I was in the mood for a beer with my steak...so that is what we drank. Sure, cracking one open and sitting on the porch was pleasant, but I can't imagine how much better it would have been with a GOOD beer.

Just another day

This is going to be my normal blog, as I didn't want to clutter up my movie/tv blog with too much personal stuff. As you can tell from the name of the blog, I'm a beer drinker and will be posting about beer from time to time. For the most part, this will just be a blog to blow off some steam and waste time.
